Is Belief in Evolution Evolving?
O.k., Darwin’s birthday, at 207 years, is not exactly a round number this year. But Pew Research used it as occasion to release interesting survey results for who believes what in America about evolution. Read the article here. No big surprises if you’ve been following such things.
I suppose one reasonable conclusion to make would be that much of American religion, especially in Evangelical Protestant, Mormon and Jehovah’s Witness forms, is highly suspicious of the conclusions of science. I guess that’s one reason (but not the only) to be unsurprised that many buck the science on human involvement in climate change and its alarming acceleration. Anyone want to speculate that belief in literal interpretation of Genesis 1-3 (“creationism”) and “climate change denial” have a very high correlation?
